Welfare Measures and Schemes for Defence Personnel in Chandigarh. The following welfare benefits have been extended by Chandigarh Administration to the defence personnel and their dependents by way of reservations, scholarships and monetary grants:-
Reservations
- 13% reservation in Govt Job in direct recruitment from Group ‘A’ to ‘D’.
- 5% seats in Engineering, Polytechnic, Nursing Training and in LLB reserved for the wards of ex-servicemen.
- 1% seats with minimum of one seat reserved in the education institutions in Chandigarh offering Bachelor Courses for direct descendants of Kargil Martyrs.
- 5% dwelling units built by Chandigarh Housing Board are reserved for allotment to Defence Personnel/Ex-servicemen.
- Reservation of 1% extra houses for blind and physically handicapped Ex-servicemen.
- 5% reservation of Industrial Shed to the Ex-servicemen.
- No domiciliary restrictions for the wards of defence personnel/ex-servicemen/widows for seeking admission in the educational institutions located in the city. Free bus travel in the CTU buses for the war widows.
Stipend/Scholarships
- 50 one time scholarships of 10,000/- to the wards of ex-servicemen/widows of UT, Chandigarh who have passed Matriculation or 10+2 examination with minimum 60 % marks and are studying in next higher class.
- 33,000/- per annum to the cadets of RIMC Dehradun who are residents of UT, Chandigarh.
- 250/- per month to servicemen trainees undergoing post release training in ITIs.
Courses
- Free Computer Course of 6 months duration for 25 ex-servicemen or their dependents.
Monetary Grants
- Financial Assistance.
- 7,500/- per month given to the World War II Veterans.
- Funeral allowance of 5,000 to the NOK of Officer & JCO.
- Financial assistance of 500/- per month to the widows whose husbands (up to the rank of Sub Maj), died in harness.
- Financial assistance of 1200/- per month to the visually impaired wards of ex-servicemen.
- Financial assistance of 1200/- per month to the mentally challenged wards of Ex-servicemen.
- Financial assistance of 1,200/- to ex-servicemen undergoing treatment in various approved paraplegic centers.
- Financial assistance of 1200/- per month to ex-servicemen who have been released from service with 100% disability.
- Financial assistance of 1000/- per month to ex-servicemen who suffered 100% disability after retirement.
- One time financial assistance upto 10,000/- to the ex-servicemen/widows living in penury by ZSWO or in special case 15,000/- by DC-cum-President Zila Sainik Board, Chandigarh.

Notes
- The lump sum rates shall apply to the future cash award winners of these awards as per dates mentioned above. They will be given lump sum amount only and they will not be entitled to any other benefit. The cash awardees who are receiving monthly allowance will be required to submit their live certificate to the Deputy Commissioner-cum Controller, Civil Defence, Union Territory, Chandigarh as well as one copy of live certificate to Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Union Territory, Chandigarh in the month of November every year, duly countersigned by a Class-I Gazetted Officer. In the case of non receipt of live certificate, the payment of monthly allowance will be stopped. The payment will resume only after receipt of live certificate.
