FAQ

Ans. The ex-serviceman has been defined as under:-

1- The eligibility of the retired Defence personnel is governed by the Department of Personnel and Training. Broad categories:

  • a) Before 01 Jul 68: Served any rank in Armed Forces and released not due to misconduct or inefficiency.
  • b) 01 Jul 68 - 01 Jul 79: Served not less than six months after attestation, released not due to misconduct or inefficiency.
  • c) 01 Jul 79 - 01 Jul 87: Served in any rank (excluding certain corps), six months minimum, conditions apply:
    • Released otherwise than on own request, dismissal, or misconduct
    • Transferred to reserve pending release
    • Released on own request after five years of service
  • d) On or after 01 Jul 87: Served in Regular Army, Navy, Air Force; includes certain Territorial Army personnel, conditions include pension, disability, reduction in establishment, etc.

2- Revised definitions notified on 27 Oct 1986, effective 1 Jul 87 for some categories.

3- Territorial Army personnel treated as Ex-servicemen w.e.f. 15.11.86.

Ans. Armed Forces of the Union means the Army, Navy, and Air Force including Armed Forces of former Indian States but excludes Defence Security Corps, General Reserve Engineering Force, Lok Sahayak Sena, and Para Military Forces.

Ans. The widow of defence personnel who has laid down his life for the defence of the country in war or military operations, whose death is attributable to military service. Not called war widows anymore.

Ans. Kendriya Sainik Board provides financial assistance for various purposes. For details visit: www.dgrindia.com.

Ans. Paid from Army Officers Benevolent Fund to all army officers who attain 75 years. NOK entitled if officer passes away before 75. More info: www.indianarmy.nic.in.

Ans. No. Only Ex-servicemen are entitled. After demise, widow can get Identity Card from Zila Sainik Welfare Office.
